The Ultimate Winter Wedding…
We can’t help but fall in love with the festive time of year. Winter is a truly magical time to tie the knot. Aside from the obvious advantages of cheaper dates and more availability of your chosen venue & suppliers, a winter wedding can produce some phenomenal, stunning photos!
In this article we take a look at some winter wedding tips, tricks & ideas...
No winter wedding is complete without lots of beautiful romantic lighting to add to the atmosphere. From fairy lights to draped festoons, mood lighting can really set the scene & looks even more stunning in winter. Go for a cosy, inviting vibe, to make your guests feel right at home.
Don't forget about candles! Candles create a romantic mood, especially as the night draws in & it starts to get dark. Use candles of different thickness & height in your table centres and on fireplaces, windowsills and down the aisle. LED candles are a perfect substitute if your venue does not allow naked flames.
Beautiful Textures & Accessories -
Capes were one of the biggest trends of 2019 winter weddings, for keeping brides & bridesmaids warm. 2020 is set to see beautiful faux fur stoles, chic shrugs & pashminas making their way down the aisle. Winter is the perfect time to experiment with different textures & accessories. Thick fabrics like velvet, tweed & tartan are warm and look incredibly chic on grooms & groomsmen. Patterns look amazing at rustic weddings!
If you want to go for something extra striking, sequin or beaded dresses are ideal & will sparkle under the lights, creating beautiful photos.
Get Creative! -
Glitter stations, firework displays & live swing bands are all perfect ways to add to that intimate, cosy winter feel. You can also get creative with your wedding favours & include things which would never be considered at a summer wedding, such as mini bottles of Baileys, sparklers, mulled wine spices, hot chocolate, candy canes & chocolate coins.
If you're wanting an edible treat for your guest, why not try homemade mince pies, fudge, truffles or nougat? Easy to DIY & wrap up yourself, tied with a piece of ribbon or hessian string.
Food & Drink -
A hot chocolate station is a great idea! Kids and adults can choose their own toppings from whipped cream, crushed candy canes, crumbled ginger biscuits, chocolate flakes & marshmallows. Just make sure it is manned by a member of staff to keep little hands safe! Or how about a cookie bar? Even better if the cookies can be kept warm! Why not give your guests a coffee liqueur or a hot toddy for the toast & don’t forget to make sure you have hot drinks on hand for your guests throughout the day.
When we think of winter weddings we think of delicious, home cooked, warming foods such as a roasted joint and treacle sponge & custard! Go for something different in the evening such as a hog roast, bacon rolls, sausage rolls or cheese toasties and don't forget to create your signature cocktail, a hot trend for 2020!
Warm Touches -
A basket filled with warm blankets or pashminas for your guests to keep warm outside, adds a nice touch & will be appreciated especially in the evening. Make sure your venue has a cloakroom available. This is essential for a winter wedding, as many guests will have heavy coats, scarves, gloves & umbrellas.
Themes & Decor -
Classic white would be the obvious choice and can look stunning at any winter wedding. However why not consider some alternative ideas before making your mind up on your winter wedding style...
Rustic decor is one of our favourites at Lightbox Lane. It embraces nature-inspired textures & uses simple and earthy colours to create an organic warmth we can't help but fall in love with! There's something about the emphasis on rugged, natural beauty that makes this style of decor simply beautiful.
Festive decor does't have to be tacky, it can be truly stunning! Why not take advantage of your venues decorations? Intricate fairy lights, wreaths, red florals and festive foliage can make for a beautiful cosy Christmas wedding.
Modern Winter Wonderland weddings are growing in popularity. They are simple & striking, with a white colour scheme and simple table arrangements, using branches, dried flowers & grasses for a contemporary feel. Splashes of gold & green help to keep this style fresh.
