Choosing your perfect suppliers...

Congratulations! Amazing news... you're engaged! You're on cloud 9 & just want to get started with the planning!

But hang on a minute, it all feels kind of overwhelming.

Know the feeling? The complicated jargon, the endless supplier lists!

Just how do you know who to choose to be involved in the biggest day of your life?!

We understand just how much of a minefield planning your wedding can be.

So have put together this handy checklist to help you find your perfect wedding suppliers..

1. Make a plan..

Before you get started it is important to have a plan!

We recommend you nail the following points from the off:

  • Your Budget - it’s easy to get carried away and spend more than you can afford. We recommend you set an affordable budget & stick with it. The last thing you need is financial stress & worry, when planning your big day. And remember, whatever your budget, you really can have the most beautiful wedding! Decide on your priorities & what is most important to you. Break your budget down into different categories such as Photographer, Decor, Florist, Entertainment etc based on your decisions.

Get in touch with us at to discuss your decor & styling options. We can help no matter what your budget is.

  • Location - most suppliers are willing to travel, but of course this comes with a cost. It's important to consider where your suppliers are based & if your budget allows for delivery & set up fees.

We cover Grimsby, Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire & its surrounding areas, however are always partial to a road trip!

If you are unsure please drop us an email or message!

  • Your Chosen Style - are you having a casual or formal day, an intimate affair or lavish celebration, a Boho Chic wedding or a Classic and Elegant affair? Determining your style early on will help you identify suppliers that compliment your style and taste.

Here at Lightbox Lane, our passion lies in Rustic & Vintage decor. However we also love the beauty of a traditional white wedding, or the contemporary feel of a modern design. Not only do we hire out our items for our customers to DIY decorate themselves, we also style, design & dress venues & events! It's our passion, & we love what we do!

2. Take your time & do your research!

Researching wedding suppliers can be a lengthy, time consuming process. However it will certainly be worth it in the long run, so grab that coffee & your laptop and most importantly.. enjoy! This is one of the most exciting parts! Seeing what's out there! There are bags of talented suppliers in our beautiful County of Lincolnshire, just waiting to be discovered by you.

The internet is a marvellous place & Pinterest (like for so many brides and grooms to be) is our ultimate favourite platform! There are so many amazing ideas on Pinterest & you can literally search for anything! Make boards of your favourite pins to bring all your ideas together and see your wedding vision come to life! You can then share these boards with your favourite suppliers & ask them to offer up suitable products & services.

Check out local wedding directories. Here in Lincolnshire we are so lucky to have Lincolnshire Weddings & their directory, right at our fingertips! This website brings together a select list of local suppliers, who will all bring something amazing to your big day.

We are honoured to be part of the directory & highly recommend you check it out here

Go to local wedding fairs. Wedding fairs can be a fantastic way to see your favourite suppliers in person & get a true feel for their services. You may even walk away with a couple of freebies!

We are so lucky that the majority of wedding venues in & around Grimsby and Cleethorpes, hold their own wedding fairs, meaning you get the opportunity to see the venue set up in all its wedding glory. Plus, for an added bonus, the venues will have most likely invited their recommended suppliers to showcase. A great opportunity to meet them!

The Lincs Wedding Show is held at the Grimsby Auditorium, every February & September. It is the area's premier wedding event and is home to over 120 stands.

We are so excited to announce that this September, on Sunday the 13th, we will be attending & showcasing some of our favourite, beautiful decor! We can’t wait to meet lots of lovely brides, grooms & their families on the day, so make sure you pop along & see us!

Lastly, when doing your research, do not forget the importance & value of word of mouth. Chat to any friends or work colleagues who have recently tied the knot, & get them to share their supplier experiences.

3. Send an enquiry..

Discovered a supplier you love the look of? Get in touch & send an enquiry! This will help you get a feel for the supplier & their customer service! Make sure you ask the all important questions such as availability, price / packages and optional extras, deposit and payment terms, terms and conditions & booking procedure.

3. Make a shortlist

Based on the responses you get to Step 3, make a shortlist of no more than two or three suppliers in each category that you love. Then checkout your shortlisted suppliers in more detail. Have a good read of their websites, brochures and blogs (if they have one) & look at their social media accounts. Are they active on these accounts & who do they interact with? Read through any reviews/testimonials from past couples.

4. Arrange a consultation..

With some suppliers, a phone consultation or even email correspondence should be enough to get an idea of whether or not you’d like to work with them, but with others (a Wedding Planner, Stylist or Photographer, for example) it’s important to check out your chemistry as well.

We have found as a business that a large number of our customers like to interact with us via email & our social media accounts. You can even book online at with no hassle or need for an appointment.

However for those customers who do wish to book consultations, view or products & meet us face to face, that is absolutely no problem! Just drop us an email to arrange an appointment -

5. Decision time!

Trust your gut instinct (& your research head of course)! Once you’ve made a decision, let the other suppliers you’ve spoken to or met with know that you’ve chosen your supplier. They will appreciate your honesty and courtesy.

Then break the good news to your chosen suppliers and start to iron out the details. If contracts/terms and conditions are available then make sure you read these carefully and that you are happy with everything included… If there are any questions marks, then don’t be afraid to query something if you’re not sure. Now is the time to ask, as you don’t want to end up with any regrets.

Once you’ve made everything official, it’s time to get excited… you’re one step closer to your big day!

And last, but certainly not least.. never forgot what you are doing this for.

Yes, you want to have the perfect day surrounded by your closest loved ones. You want to look absolutely stunning & be the centre of attention (naturally)!

But ultimately, you are doing it to marry the one person you want to spend the rest of your life with. Never lose sight of that.

Happy planning!
